Battleship Point with the Seever's

Once upon a time we had a tradition (that began with uncle Russ) of climbing to the top of Flat Iron the day after Thanksgiving. We decided to bring it alive again, but... considering the number of little ones on this hike (and the time alloted)... we aimed for the peak just below Flat Iron... Battleship Point.

Jeff and I, and our 4 little hikers, and Adam and Hydee with their six headed up the mountain. We soon made it to a favorite break point which we (so creatively) call "the cave".

Macey, Aubree, Maya, Kate, and Sage.

Right: My niece Macey. She is the one we claimed as our own when we lived in Texas.

Laird was proud to have found a small whole to squirm through, and happily posed for this picture.
The kids weren't the only ones having a good time. Jeff showing off his bouldering skills.

We could have stayed at "the cave" the entire day and as long as we had enough food, the kids would have been happy. BUT, their were those of us who wanted to conquer... and so it was time to move on. Our little family as well as Adam and his two boys headed up the trail, while Hydee and her girls headed back down the mountain.
We got up past "the bowl" or "Siphon Draw" and took the right fork to Battleship Point.

Jeff headed back early to beat the sun, with Kate and Ella in tow. The trail is rather steep and loose at parts, and in this picture he is carying Kate (in the back pack) and Ella in front. That's my man!
